I’m currently enrolled in the Algonquin College Sommelier Program in Ottawa, Ontario. I entered the program with nothing more than a casual appreciation of wine: I’ve gone to fairs and tastings, but never really sat down and took the time to analyze the aromas or the quality of the wine.
I have absolutely no restaurant experience or hospitality experience. I moved to Ottawa two years after completing university (I spent those two years in Calgary working in public accounting – another story for another time), after my “quarterlife crisis”. Having enjoyed wine for a few years, I decided to jump into the program and complete it on a part-time basis.
I am not pretending to be an expert, nor to be anything else than slightly informed about wine. The blog is to chronicle my journey from complete neophyte to pseudo-professional… I plan to write about the program, about my travels, events attended and general musings.
